19 March 2023
OYYAL celebrated the talents of our students in a grandeur way by conducting our Inter-SEED-Point competition for the academic year 2022-23 on March 19, 2023.
Every year we end the year on a high by conducting this carnival to encourage and appreciate the students of all our SEED points. This year it is even better as we gathered all 19 centers in a single venue Veppanapalli for the event.
Platform was all set for students to showcase their skills and compete for the top spot. Preparations started more than a month before with all tutors and students participating in cultural activities, science exhibitions, poem, mime, dramas, drawings under various themes given by us.
It was all fun and great experience with all arrangements starting from arranging buses for students to reach the venue from their villages, Lunch preparation, arranging prizes and mementoes for students and tutors, purchasing materials for competition, stage decoration, sound systems .. The list goes on...
From 19 centers, more than 300 students participated in the event and made it a grand success. We had our guests coming in from companies like Qualcomm, Western Digital and our good friend Sampath Kumar from Uyirootal Foundation and graced the occasion.
We also used this stage to distribute the pattas we recently could get for the tribal people from Chinnaguthi, Sigrlapalli and surrounding villages. The recipients also came all the way from their tribal villages and received the documents.
Students were served delicious lunch and the break was well-used by a 'Science Experiments show' conducted by Mr.Arivu from Chennai. Students were exuberant in participating with Arivu and learnt wonders of science in an interactive and fun filled way.
At the end of the event, all students were appreciated with a certificate. And special gifts including sports kit (carrom board, badminton kit, chess board, skipping etc) were presented to each center. The topper centers were awarded a trophy which was the pinnacle of the event. All tutors are duly acknowledged with a memento.
Happiness in the faces of all these hundreds of students is a testament to the success of OYYAL's efforts. We are confident this will encourage students to be more confident and bolder in their abilities and develop them further for their successful future.

OYYAL HELPS TRIBAL CHILDREN FROM UNDIYAL NATHTHAM VILLAGE AVAIL COMMUNITY CERTIFICATES
07 August 2022
Educational empowerment plays a pivotal role in social empowerment of underprivileged communities in our society. Even after so many years of independence, the tribal community people still remains in the underprivileged section of our society.
Oyyal ever since our inception has been working in the field to bridge this gap and bring empowerment through education and social welfare schemes. Our SEED POINTS scheme is one way we are trying to address this issue by means of education. While the social aspect is another means to help the needy get the government support.
Undiyal Naththam a panchayat in Veppanapalli union, Krishnagiri district is basically a tribal village with Irulas community people . However there are many people who don't have the ST Community certifates to prove them. For so many years, it remains a struggle for them. Oyyal after our persistent efforts made that possible by availing ST community certificate to 13 children out of 15 applied. This a fantastic news to the Irulas group of people from this village, because as parents they understand the importance and impact of this in all government schemes including education.
We are also hoping, this will be a stepping stone for a better future for the tribal community.

REMOTE LEARNING SETUP IN SEED POINTS (PHASE-1)
19 November 2021
During the pandemic, it became very evident that virtual class rooms and remote learning facilities are a must for students to continue their learning from homes. When it is difficult for an average household person to have laptop and other facilities to enable these at their homes, it is needless to mention the state of the students from remote villages where OYYAL operates. That is when we started planning on setting up remote learning facilities for our OYYAL SEED point students.
We are happy to share that we have now enabled "Remote e-learning" facility in 6 of our SEED POINTS from 2 villages Neralagiri and Kuriyanapalli. This started functioning from Nov 19th 2021.
This setup of a 32" Android based TV with internet facility will enable our students with all the knowledge across the globe. Benefits are many, to name a few, We can share good content from internet with students very easily without our physical presence and they can also watch the government educational videos from educational TV channels, video calling, screen sharing etc. This will benefit close to 100 students as on date and we are planning to expand this to all our 20 odd centers.
The excitement from the students and tutors is already remarkable considering not many have a normal TV in their homes (forget about an Android phone or a Smart TV)
Each setup costs around Rs.14,000 and we are on course to enable all our centers with this facility.

15 December 2020
As a part of OYYAL's on-going initiatives to enhance the livelihood of marginalized communities, we are proud to announce yet another feather in our cap. Under this scheme, 22 rural tribal (ST) families from villages namely Kumbalam, Ramandoddi, Sigarlapalli, Chinnaguthi received their share of free cattle (goats/sheeps) on 15th December 2020. Considering the pandemic situation, this will give much needed boost and hope to these village people. We sincerely hope the villagers make use of this and enhance their livelihood in future.

OYYAL TUTORS MEET - BALANAPALLI
1 March 2020
Dialogues and discussions are always good in a healthy organization. We regularly interact with our OYYAL SEED point tutors from all villages to understand their inputs, challenges and discuss solutions. And in continuation of that process, we met with all our tutors on March 1 at Balanapalli Govt Middle School. This time we were accompanied by child Enthusiast Eniyan as well. It was heartening to see a large number of tutors opening up on their experience with Oyyal even though they are relatively new to Oyyal team. They also shared what they want to achieve with these village children and we discussed some common issues and solutions for every village.
Fortunately since we had Eniyan with us, he shared some valuable inputs and experience of understanding and interacting with children, with all of us. At the end of the program, we planned a training for all our tutors to enhance their learning and teaching. Our good friends Sankar and Kanagaraj who are well-experienced trainers, gave some introduction about our training materials, training pattern and interacted with the tutors for some time. Overall, it was a very good meet, interacting with all our team members, exchanging ideas and an informal kick-start to our tutors training session.

POWER TILLER FOR TRIBAL COMMUNITY IN KRISHNAGIRI DIST
4 February 2020
Oyyal has been working continuously for the upliftment and economic empowerment of the under privileged sections of the society for long time now. Of late, since 2019, we have been showing more attention on few tribal villages, which needed assistance for their development. In Krishnagiri district, Shoolagiri circle, comes 'Kumbalam' panchayat, under which the villages 'Kumbalam', 'Ramandoddi', 'Sigarlapalli', 'Chinnakuthi' are all tribal villages.
From our studies and field visits over the past 1 year, we learnt that a lot of welfare measures from the government of India and the state are in place exclusively for ST community but have a few hurdles (like lack of awareness among people) in reaching these needy people. We decided to commit ourself to work towards this and get the government assistance to them.
Our first initiative on that front is to get the welfare scheme related to irrigation and agriculture from DADW (District Adi-Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department) Tamil Nadu. We approached the Tribal welfare department and inquired about the agricultural assistance schemes from the government for Tribal farmers. From that scheme, we applied for the sponsored 'Power Tiller' (a machine used in agriculture for cultivation, tillage, sowing and weeding which works using an electric motor or fuel engine) on behalf of the community on 18.11.2019.
On 04.02.2020, a total of 20 power tillers, with each worth Rs.1,60,000/- (1.6 Lakhs) were distributed to as many applicants from our villages by honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in a "Medical college foundation stone laying ceremony" in Krishnagiri. This was a huge success and morale booster for the tribal farming community as well as us. This will certainly help in the economic upliftment of the community and this will be a pioneering step from OYYAL with many more to come.
With our SEED Points already been running in these villages, targeting the budding tribal children for about an year now, this is a significant achievement in another parallel track aiming at the parents of the children studying under SEED Points.

CHILDREN ARTS AND LITERARY FESTIVAL" - DHARMAPURI
8 November 2019
Oyyal for the first time collaborated with two other groups working actively for Children, Pallaanguzhi and Nadai Pazhagu, to conduct an event exclusively for children under the concept of Story telling. Event "Children Arts and Literary Festival" (Kuzhandhaigalukkaana Kalai Ilakkiya Kondattam) was conducted on Nov 30 in Dharmapuri, Adhiyaman Kottam. Aim of the programme is to bring the creative story teller inside the children by letting them narrate the story by themselves and share their views and experience on the story. For this event, the preparation for the students started more than a month ago, by letting them choose the story books they wish. From Oyyal, 10 students from villages Edipalli, Tharanisandram, Kurianappalli, Neralagiri have participated, even though much more were interested.
The half-a-day Event started at 9.30 am on Nov. 30 in Dharmapuri. Every child showcased its talent by putting forth its oratory and understanding skills in its story. It was very warming to witness some of the prominent people working for the children development like Vizhiyan, Panchumittai Prabhu, Vishnupuram Saravanan and many more participating in the event and encouraging the children. Every child was awarded a gift and memento as a small acknowledgement to their amazing skills and efforts. The children group performed a skit under the concept of "Natural way of Living" and events to encourage our traditional games among children were also staged. Considering the fact that, the children from these under privileged backgrounds getting a big stage like this to showcase their skills in-front of the packed hall, including their parents, tutors and notable experts, we believe the program is a great success and it is just a beginning for these talented children.
Many thanks and big kudos to Mr.Eniyan from Pallanguzhi group to have organized this event and made a strong mark on the minds of the children.

8 October 2019
We are very pleased to state that Oyyal foundation has started its 22nd and 23rd SEED Points in RamanDoddi and ChinnaGuththi villages which are located in Krishnagiri District of Tamilnadu. As we learnt from our previous field visit to these villages, though government is doing its part by providing free education and financial assistance, the tribal population that inhabits these places are in dire need of our social assistance.
Hence we decided to take lay the cornerstone for transformation of these villages by starting our SEED points (Student Education and Extra Curricular skill Development Point) in each of these villages. OYYAL is determined to contribute in every way it can and this step is just the beginning of many more to come.

OYYAL FIELD VISIT TO 2 NEW TRIBAL VILLAGES - RAMANDODDI & CHINNA GUTHTHI : KRISHNAGIRI
30 September 2019
In the pursuit of its mission of socio economic development in Rural areas , OYYAL has always been enthusiastic to explore new horizons. One such effort was to conduct field visits to villages where OYYAL still has not got foothold. The purpose of the field visit is to interact with the villagers, understand their needs , grievances and get an overall idea on where OYYAL can contribute. For the Field visit, we chose the villages of RamanDoddi and ChinnaGuththi. This particular visit was unique because both these villages had their majority of population belonging to tribal community.
After a detailed interaction, it was evident that lack of education, seasonal unemployment, Lack of proper physical, human and social infrastructure is pushing these villages into oblivion. It is amazing that women are playing an active and dominant role in both bread-winning and societal development. Both RamanDoddi and ChinnaGuththi, which are situated in the backwoods of Krishnagiri district need empowerment through the education. Hence we decided to make both these villages as areas of work under OYYAL family and do our best for their upliftment.

26 January 2019
OYYAL has always looked forward to contribute for the socio-economic progress of the village as a whole. For this it's essential to understand the persisting problems and get a perspective from ground level. This Republic Day we got a chance to attend the GramaSabha of Chinnakothur village. GramaSabha, which is the formal platform for discussion of the issues in the village and debating the solutions pondered, proved to be a perfect channel for us to learn and participate in the bigger picture.
This interaction also had the presence of several Government Officials like Block Development Officer, District Child Protection Officer, Block Resource Teacher and others which helped us in getting a bureaucratic perspective. The Women of this village amazed us by demonstrating their knowledge of the Governance, Resolutions, etc., despite being mostly illiterate. Their remarkable resilience strengthened our resolve to work harder for a better society.

OYYAL DISTRIBUTES NEW UNIFORMS FOR SCHOOL KIDS IN VALLI NAGAR VILLAGE : NERALAGIRI
23 December 2018
During the OYYAL'S recent visit to the newly established SEED Point in ValliNagar village, It was noticed that there is a decline in the School attendance of the ValliNagar's kids who attend the Neralagiri school. On further enquiring, we came to know the real reason behind this is lack of proper clothing for the kids to attend school with dignity.
To restore the joy of returning to school for these kids, OYYAL decided to donate a new set of School Uniforms to all the kids who are the verge of dropping out of school. The expenditure of 14,000 rupees which OYYAL had incurred for this purpose, had a definite and satisfactory outcome as there was an immediate and sustained increase in the school attendance. Thus OYYAL takes a step forward in its journey of Societal Uplifting through rural education.

"Kathai Solli" Sathish, a prominent story teller from Chennai, has benevolently accepted our request to spearhead the event.

INAUGURAL VISIT OF 5 NEW SEED POINTS: VEPPANAPALLI UNION, KRISHNAGAIRI.
21 July 2018
We made an inaugural visit to the SEED points that were newly established in the villages of Idipalli, Kattayambeedu, Pathimadugu, ChinnaBasthalapalli, Tharanisandram from Veppanapalli Union, Krishnagiri district. These villages are marked with grave socio-economic, issues ranging from poverty, illiteracy to social deprivation as result of being from backward classes. All these villages have single-teacher-school, and hence the chances of getting a wholesome education for students is very bleak.
Therefore, we believe that our SEED points in these villages will make a difference certainly.

STORY TELLING CONTEST FOR STUDENTS FROM IV TO VIII GRADE: VEPPANAPALLI VILLAGE, KURIANAPALLI
11 March 2018
"Stories are the currency of human contact" - Robert McKee.One of the most important objectives of OYYAL is to improve the basic language and communication skills of the kids. We have earlier employed a lot of activities like elocution, essay writing to promote communication skills among the children. This time we have decided to explore the horizon of storytelling which proved to be magnificent. The participants were children from age groups belonging to IV to VIII standard, who were provided with a Tamil story book each. The kids were expected to narrate a story and were free to add or delete anything from the content- the only condition was No mugging. The kids proved themselves to exceptionally well at the craft of storytelling. Given the fact that about 90 % of the kids were from non-Tamil speaking background, their performance could only be called stupendous. Be it any part of their act - language, diction, gestures, the kids aced it with ease. At the end of the program the kids were rewarded with a book each.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the tutors whose sincere and strenuous efforts form the heart and soul of the success of the program.

FIELD VISIT to EKALNATHAM, KRISHNAGIRI
18 November 2017
Oyyal as a part of its efforts to reach out more villages, visited a village named “Ekalnatham” from Krishnagiri district, which is on the top of a hill. The village lacking basic facilities including the roads (4km walk) from the plains to the village, makes them deprived of quality education, jobs and a stable livelihood. People are still in an age of using donkeys to transport the food and other basic amenities from the nearest village to their village.
There are about 170 families with proper Family Cards proving their identity. Steps are taken from Oyyal side to share this issue to media to get government attention and create an impact. We also talked with local villagers to see if we can setup our SEED point in this village. Once we get a reasonable support from the localities, we can do our part to start working in this village also.

OYYAL’S ASSITANCE TO AN ENGINEERING STUDENT, KALINGAVARAM ,KRISHNAGIRI DISTRICT
07 October 2016
OYYAL steps forward to assist chandran, a final year Mechanical engineering student from Kalingavaram village, Krishnagiri district.
Though we have known Chandran from 2014, as a tutor for our SEED program, we were not aware of his indigent financial conditions. Recently when we were looking for the candidates who require OYYAL’s financial assistance so as to finish their education, we came to know that destitution is forcing Chandran to drop out of the college as he was unable to pay the final year fee. Moved by his plight, OYYAL committed itself to assist him to continue his studies. OYYAL’s contribution of 9000/- along with the benevolent aid of 11000/- given by another group called “Spreading smiles” sufficed to pay the entire final year fee, enabling Chandran to continue his education.
We extend our special thanks to Swaminathan Krishnamurthy for acting as a bridge between OYYAL and SPREADING SMILES. Also we are grateful for all the painstaking efforts put in by our volunteer Mr.Nagaraju which helped us a great deal. May all our collective efforts lead to fruition.
