OYYAL is primarily focused on these things.

  • Arrange for guest lectures, focusing on career guidance, exam preparation, and nurturing extracurricular skills
  • Enabling students to go for Higher education after High School
  • Support for maintaining infrastructure
  • Arrange for temporary teachers, for key subjects

Below are some salient programs from OYYAL

  • OYYAL SEED POINTS – AN INTERESTING LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR KIDS
    • SEED (Students Education and Extra-Curricular Skills Development) Point – A concept of Evening Learning Centers in each village to strengthen the basic skills and the extra-curricular skills of students from I std to VIII std
    • Provides an infrastructure for the children in villages to learn after school
    • Every center to have 15-20 students mentored by a tutor from that particular village
    • About 500 students are currently being benefitted out of this program, running across 20 centers with as many tutors mentoring them
    • Students learn using Activity Based Learning Methodology helping slow learners to pick up faster
    • Materials developed by a highly skilled research team from a well-experienced NGO called AID-INDIA (Eureka Super Kidz Project)
    • Regular trainings are organized for the tutors to learn and improve the teaching experience continuously
    • Provide Monthly remuneration for the tutors
    • Closely monitoring the skill gaps in tutors and also kids by regular assessment programs
    • Encourages students to concentrate more on out-of-school assignments like competitive examination, Extra-curricular skill competitions (inter-school and intra-school) and government scholarship examinations
    • Special coaching or training for children who have special interests in non-academic activities like Chess etc are also arranged
    • Every year, a grand event is being organized among all the SEED points to showcase the talents and skills of the SEED Point students and rewarded with lots of exciting prizes as well
  • SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES FOR TRIBAL AND UNDER-PRIVILEGED COMMUNITIES IN REMOTE VILLAGES
    Through this program, we identify a few villages based on their socio-economic situation especially targeting the tribal communities and other under-privileged communities in the remote villages and run various programs and welfare measures to ensure their self-sustained living and social development. Some of them includes
    • Working with state and central government departments to avail the welfare schemes
    • To help the people in availing the government documents like Ration Cards, Aadhaar card, Property documents etc which help them in receiving various government welfare schemes for their livelihood
    • To help the tribal farmers avail the government sponsored farming equipments to enhance their livelihood
  • FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MERIT AND UNDER PRIVILEGED STUDENTS TO PURSUE DEGREE AFTER SCHOOL
    Through this program we identify students who have very good academic records in school exam but could not afford going to college due to the family situation. We sponsor those students for the entire course and ensure they graduate successfully.

  • TEACHER APPOINTMENT FOR SINGLE-TEACHER SCHOOLS
    Lack of teacher in rural government schools due to the complexities involved in filling it through the government is a perennial issue in many remote villages. The team decided to bridge the staffing gap by appointing teachers for key subjects in the schools. A teacher for English and a teacher for Social studies were appointed under Oyyal. The remuneration and the monitoring part of the teachers are handled by Oyyal.

  • INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE ASSISTANCE
    We support and sponsor remote government schools to develop and maintain the infrastructure facilities like Class rooms, computer lab, play grounds, libraries, Drinking Water and Toilet facilities especially for girl students. We have addressed these requests on need basis based on the track record of the school, HM and teachers.
